Ego Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday

RavnElite Rating: 9/10

Warning: This one punches you in the pride, in the best way possible.

This book rocked me.  I like to believe I am not at all an egoic person.  Ego has always been associated for me with police officers that had a shit attitude, Napoleon complex short kings, fighter pilots (this is no longer the case after getting out), operators and the Suits that flaunt expensive watches and cars.  I was wrong.  My perception of EGO was not at all what I thought it actually was.  Take this as a wake up call…we all have ego.  We may just not be that person seeking validation by being loud and the center of attention….but we all have it.

Your ego isn’t just some loud, arrogant voice in a room….it’s a voice on your shoulder that whispers lies in your ear.

“You’re the shit.”

“You don’t need help.”

“Your’e a man, you don’t need help”

“You already know enough.”

“You should’ve made it by now.”

Stop.

Ryan Holiday exposes that voice and shows you how ego kills growth, blocks wisdom, and poisons progress.  Whether you’re grinding at the bottom or winning at the top. It doesn’t matter if you’re building an empire or rebuilding yourself after a loss… ego doesn’t discriminate. It just distracts, inflates, and blinds.

This book is stoic wisdom in combat boots.

 It teaches you how to…

  • Get over your own hype. (Just because you’re that guy, doesn’t mean you have to flaunt it)

  • Stay humble while leveling up

  • Build mastery instead of chasing applause

  • Learn, lead, and last…not just flex with your fake “alpha” voice.

Do you want to perform at an elite level? Then you have to kill that little voice that needs validation, gets triggered by critique, and panics when the spotlight isn’t on them.

Bottom line:

This book doesn’t stroke your ego, it shatters it.

This is  exactly what will make you an elite performer.

Read it, then move in silence. Let your results make the noise.
